BIRDHEART

Julian Crouch and Saskia Lane's BIRDHEART is an intimate and stunning chamber piece of animated theatre with a sheet of brown paper and a box of sand. A show about transformation, loneliness, and the urge to fly, BIRDHEART holds a hand-mirror up to humanity and offers it a chair. Through a series of animated images built in front of the audiences' eyes BIRDHEART creates something achingly beautiful from the humblest of beginnings

The Sweetest Life

A treatise on loss of innocence and resilience in the face of life’s hard knocks, The Sweetest Life melds concert and theater to tell the story of the life cycle of a humble, hopeful flax plant via a compendium of offbeat, soulful songs, strands of spoken text, and a handful of theatrical gestures that animate and transpose the convention of a band playing a gig into that of a “band” of storytellers who have come together to impart a story through music, word, and image.

Jedermann

The stage play “Jedermann” was first performed on 1 December 1911 at Berlin’s Schuhmann Circus, under the direction of Max Reinhardt. It was also he who produced its premiere at the Salzburg Festival on 22 August 1920 – marking the birth of the Festival itself. Except for a few years’ hiatus, “Jedermann” has been performed there annually ever since – the undisputed highlight of Festival season. Since 2013, Saskia has been delighted to take part in two different productions, the first directed by Brian Mertes and Julian Crouch, the second by Michael Sturminger.

THE DEVIL AND MISTER PUNCH

The Devil and Mister Punch is a tragical comedy of manslaughter and love. It's Punch and Judy but as presented by Messrs Harvey and Hovey, a pair of broken vaudevillians who have "played them all" and are now in the gutter. In a small world writ large by a dog at a typewriter, the indefatigable Mr Punch is chased down for his crimes and put before the Judge. But it is creativity itself that is put in the dock and the whole show goes to Hell.
Accompanied by a lush score of bass fiddle, gin parlour piano, metronome and bells, a set of fine crafted puppets and well worn performers battle it out on a gloriously theatrical wood-panelled set. Hilarious and thought provoking, beautiful and dark, brutal and tender, The Devil and Mister Punch is an explosion of noses and chins, crocodiles and sausages, and piglets and baseball bats.
